The Shock of the Fall Review #7

Hello World,

Another book review for you guys, this one is called The Shock of the Fall and it is by a guy called Nathan Filer. I did finish this book last week and it did only take me a week to read. I picked it up because I needed a book to read whilst on the flight to Prague, as the final instalment of The Daughter of Smoke and Bone was too big to pack in my carry one.

Nathan Filer book is written in a memoir way, about a young man who shares his life and his mental illness. Matthew Homes, had an older brother called Simon, but in a few pages Simon dies and you don't figure out why until more at the end. You naturally assume Simon dies of his illness, that Matthew mentions in the book countless times. It starts off with Matthew introduction and at the beginning, which just has to be Simon deaths. It then progresses to there and then and into Matthew mental illness of hallucinating Simon.
We read into Matthew obsession in writing and being submitted into a psychiatric ward, his life there and how he overcomes his mental illness and how he grieves over Simon death.

My actual overall review of the book, is that it is a must read. I do recommend giving this book a read or generally check it out. I'm no expert in mental illnesses, especially the seriousness of hallucination or schizophrenia, so I wouldn't know how accurate or how well Nathan Filer knew his stuff. What I did find was that Nathan Filer had me captured from the first few pages and kept me there all the way until the last page. In a different way, I didn't get to close to the character, I didn't want to know Matthew well enough and I most certainly didn't care if he overcome his illness. I was just strangely interested in Matthew story and how he told it.

Rose.
